FINALLY!! A big free agent has switched markets and moved on to bigger and better things. Amar’e Stoudemire is moving from the West Sii-eeee-dah to the East Coast, trading in his Suns jersey for the Knickerbockers lifestyle. And good for him. He is an oustanding player who has gotten his fare share of bad press, but deserves to be recognized as a fantastic basketball player. He is back in the fold with Mike D’Antoni. Granted, these two have had their fare share of spouts in the past, but I think this could breed good things for the Knicks. They now have a decent starting rotation with Amar’e, Duhon, and McGrady, and should give Atlantic a few fits.

That being said, I apologize to Knicks fans out there when I leave it at that. They are still not a contender. They need one more big name. I’m not saying that name needs to be Wade, James, or Bosh, but they need to make a move for more players. They have the cap space to do it, so hopefully it is someone big. I am not a fan of the Knicks, per se. I don’t root for them; I don’t follow them; I’m not a fan of Spike Lee. But I will say this…the NBA needs the Knicks. They are a cornerstone franchise who IS the NBA. I can’t wait for the Knicks to be good again, if only for the storylines they bring along and represent. They fight; they’re dirty; they (to some extent) disgrace the game (see Stephon Marbury, who is now playing in friggin’ China); but they are the NBA, and should be a good team. I hope the moves they make, at a minimum, make the Knicks somewhat legitimate.
